Scott joined Pia Hoyt on January 1, 2013 as Senior Litigation Counsel and has since become a partner. Prior to joining Pia Hoyt, Mr. Hoyt spent over 30 years as an associate and then partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, in their Los Angeles and Dallas offices. Most recently, Scott was a senior partner in the litigation department in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Dallas office.

Scott is licensed to practice law in Texas, California, and Utah. While his primary focus is complex insurance and reinsurance litigation, he also has considerable experience in technology, trademark and unfair competition, trade secrets, appellate litigation, construction and real estate disputes, fiduciary disputes, insurance coverage, non-competition covenants, professional malpractice, and the full range of commercial litigation for clients in high tech industries such as Telecom.

Scott was one of the lead trial attorneys for Aetna Casualty and London Market Insurers in the largest case ever tried in the U.S. -- the Coordinated Asbestos Coverage Case. He has tried numerous jury and bench trials in various states involving: insurance coverage and bad faith; commercial business and breach of contract; unfair competition and trade secrets; product liability; mass and toxic tort; personal injury and wrongful death; construction and real estate; legal and accounting malpractice; computer consulting and implementation; and Telecom.

Scott is a graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of Law. He graduated in the top 5 percent of his class, was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a member of the Hastings Law Review and Thurston Society. He also clerked for the Honorable Justice Frank D. Richardson of the California Supreme Court while in law school. He received his undergraduate degree in Latin American Studies from the California State University – Fullerton. For the last ten years, Scott has been ranked by Chambers and Partners as a top insurance coverage litigator in Texas.
