Shelby Hughes

Shelby Jaye Hughes is a senior associate at Pia Hoyt with a sharp focus on business, construction, and real estate disputes. She has experience in navigating high-stakes disputes—from class actions to individual lawsuits—representing clients in vast area of matters including contract, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, construction defects, employment, and land use disputes. Her advocacy also extends to protecting clients’ interests in Utah’s appellate courts.

Shelby has further experience representing court appointed receivers who were tasked with protecting a $23 million receivership estate.

Shelby serves as Past-President of the University of Utah Young Alumni Association (2021) and is an active Board Member and Retreat Committee Co-Chair for Women Lawyers of Utah.

Outside the office, Shelby enjoys running, skiing, and watching football (Boomer Sooner & Go Birds), as well as spending time with her husband, their son, and their rescue dog, Sofie.
